现任南方医科大学公共卫生学院院长、流行病学系主任，二级教授、博士生导师，国家卫健委国家健康医疗大数据研究院和人才培训示范基地负责人，教育部工程研究中心负责人，获聘教育部“长江学者奖励计划”青年学者、广东省“珠江学者”特聘教授，获第九届“树兰医学青年奖”、第二十四届“广东青年五四奖章”。担任中华预防医学会流行病学分会委员、中国医师协会循证医学专业委员会常委、广东省预防医学会健康医疗大数据专业委员会主任委员、广东省预防医学会流行病学专业委员会常委兼秘书长、广东省精准医学应用学会医学大数据和人工智能分会副主委、中华疾病控制杂志副主编、中华流行病学杂志编委等。
长期基于健康医疗大数据开展流行病学研究，为重大慢性病精准预防和传染病精准防控提供高质量证据。主要研究兴趣涉及健康医疗大数据、老年流行病学、卫生技术评估、临床流行病学、循证医学等领域。近年以通讯/第一作者（含共同）在BMJ（IF=107.7）、Ann Intern Med（IF=39.2）、Ann Rheum Dis（IF=27.4）等发表论文100余篇，3篇入选ESI高被引论文，3篇论文获F1000推荐，多次获Nature、N Engl J Med、JAMA等正面引用和高度评价，累计被引5200余次（单篇最高256次），H指数40（Web of Science）。
主持国家自然科学基金面上项目等国家级项目5项。作为主编撰写科学出版社“十四五”普通高等教育规划教材《临床流行病学》，作为副主编撰写“十三五”国家重点出版物系列专著等论著3部、参编多部；作为主要起草人参与编制《中国高龄老年人血压水平适宜范围指南（T/CPMA 017—2020）》等团体标准。
